The Union for Retail and Fast Food Workers

The Retail and Fast Food Workers Union is the fighting union for all retail and fast food workers in Australia. If you work in a shop, store, supermarket, fast food restaurant, or for any retail or fast food company then the Retail and Fast Food Workers Union is the union for you.

We represent and support members in the workplace, in tribunals and in the community. Our campaigns are developed by our members, for our members. Those campaigns have returned penalty rates at some of our nation’s biggest companies, as well as many smaller employers. We fight for every member.

RAFFWU is led by workers from stores and outlets just like yours, and we represent the interests of over one million Australians working in the retail and fast food sectors. Join us today!

Just some of the workplaces in which members work include:

  • Coles, Aldi, IGA, Woolworths or any other supermarket
  • McDonald’s, Hungry Jacks, Red Rooster, KFC, Domino’s Pizza or any other fast food company which doesn’t serve alcohol
  • Bunnings Warehouse, Mitre 10 or any other hardware store
  • BWS, Coles Liquor, Dan Murphy’s and many other bottleshops
  • Target, Kmart, Officeworks, Big W and all other retailers
  • Rays Outdoors, Rebel Sport, BCF, Super Cheap Auto
  • Clothing and accessory stores such as H&M, Best & Less, Lowes, etc
  • Service Stations, including Woolworths/Caltex, Coles Express, 7/11, BP, United, Puma, OTR

Of course, these are just some examples! If you work in other retail or fast food workplaces we cover you too.

Union Coverage

We respect the work of other democratic and free trade unions and therefore:

  • All meat workers, including all butchers and meat packers at retail stores and supermarkets, should join the Australasian Meat Industry Employees Union (AMIEU).
  • All warehousing and distribution workers, other than those employed in an actual retail store, should join the United Workers Union (UWU, formerly NUW) or Transport Workers Union (TWU).
  • All fast food workers employed in non-traditional fast food sites, such as Grill’d, where United Workers Union (formerly United Voice) has members, along with all workers at stand-alone fast food sites that serve alcoholic beverages, should join UWU.
  • All head office staff who work in a dedicated head or regional office for a retail or fast food company join the Australian Services Union (ASU) instead.
  • Delivery drivers who work for retail companies where the Transport Workers Union has members should join the TWU.
